Merriweather Bold by Eben Sorkin is a free serif font with broad, sturdy letterforms and a strong editorial bearing. Its bracketed serifs, softly shaped curves, and noticeable stroke contrast keep the weight substantial without making the letters look stiff.

Magazine covers are an especially convincing use, with the compact shapes also fitting book jackets, cultural posters, and heritage-minded packaging. In publishing, its dark color and classical proportions establish a firm headline voice beside photographs or illustration.
